Bloodhive is one of the less cost-efficient items in the game right now. It gies 15% leech and 20 attack damage, along with a 15% chance to wound enemies on attack. The issue is that it's very expensive at (3000?) gold, and leech/damage are easy to get on other items which suit the same build.
I am planning to change its passive and give it an active component.
The passive will be 10% life leech, or 20% when you first hit an enemy unit. This will have a long (15+ seconds) local cooldown. The local cooldown refreshes instantly if a unit attacks you, making it a very good leech item for confrontations, but not as good for general sustain.
The active will still inflict wound, but I haven't decided on its targeting yet. Obviously we don't want another Ribbonmaker!
It might be interesting to work another item into Bloodhive, such as Fluent Mind (silence self, wound enemies, etc.)

Not sure if it needs an active effect for the wound (although I do agree that the current wound passive needs a change), but you could make it along the lines of:
Marks target unit for 4 seconds (possibly using targeting similar to carrion curse & Doom). If the target loses more than 30 % its max hp while marked, it will immediately be wounded.
Effect could additionally deal damage based on the target's missing hp, but that might not necessary, and would make the active quite strong.
