Hi all,
I suppose today is as good a time as any to announce that Rise of Winterchill has formally finished its run on Warcraft III. I had no idea when I started back in 2007, that it would be 7+ years before I would finally make this announcement. I have had a most wonderful time developing the map and playing with all of you, and I am both deeply thankful and honoured to have enjoyed such fine company over the years, and right up to this present day. My decision to end Warcraft III development here is a product of many factors: largely that I tire of the World Editor's clunkiness, the depopulation of Battle.net in recent months, and being busy with development on another project.
To bring things to a satisfying conclusion, I am hoping to arrange a few matches on one of the more familiar versions, and make a video about the map. More details about that will be available in the coming weeks.
Thanks again for the good times,
Softmints
P.S. There is a sequel for RoW in the works on a standalone engine. More about that later.

RoW is one of those games that has brought me such joy over the past few years. Not only has the map itself made me happy, but the people I have met as a result of continuing to play it have contributed to awesome memories.
Hopefully it sees success in the sequel and you can develop it more towards the way you want it to be without World Editor's restrictions or clunkiness.
If you plan on arranging matches, I should be around. I will try to be on Steam.

I've had such a blast playing this game, and so many fond memories. From the time I joined my first game, and thinking "holy shit, she can blink other heroes," to the many subsequent hours spent playing and interacting with the awesome group of people that we have.
Looking forward to seeing your new project! Count me in for the matches.

I, sincerely, love RoW.
It's been a large part of my life, and kept me going through a lot of hard times.
While I might at times give the impression of someone that whines and complains a lot about the game, it is truly just because I've always wanted to see the game move forward, to progress into becoming even greater, since I've always been sure that it's a great game. Knowing that it is finally heading into becoming it's own stand-alone game, with all restrictions of the WC3 engine lifted and the ideas we've all helped out pouring into the game being able to flow freely fills me with high levels of joy.
It also makes me sad. I can easily say that I've come and gone a lot when it comes to the game. I haven't always been there, and I've had large gaps in my playing times, however, it's always been there, for me. Not many days pass without me thinking about RoW at least somewhat, and the fact that it wont be as easy in reach any more, just to start up the good old WC3 and see if it's about to get hosted, is going to be a habit that will be both hard and painful to get rid of.
I am eager to follow the game's continued growth, and I hope it will become the best it can be.
Love this game, and all of you guys. Easily some of the best memories of my life. Thank you all, and especially Softmints who made all of this.
